Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers for parents considering online secondary and GCSE Maths tuition with SiddiqAcademy.
Getting Started
What to expect before tuition begins.
Is the consultation really free?
Yes. The consultation is completely free, and there is no obligation to book lessons afterwards. It gives me the opportunity to understand your child’s current situation, confidence, areas of concern and what the most suitable next step may be.
What happens after I submit an enquiry?
I personally review the information you provide and contact you to arrange a suitable consultation time. This means I can begin to understand your child’s needs before we discuss the most appropriate next step.
Do I have to commit to lessons straight away?
No. The first step is simply a conversation. If tuition feels right for your child, we can then discuss availability, lesson structure and the best way forward. There is no pressure or obligation to continue.
Tuition & Support
The students, courses and areas of Maths I support.
Which year groups do you support?
I mainly support secondary school students in Years 7–11. This includes secondary school Maths, GCSE preparation at both Foundation and Higher tier, and AQA Level 2 Further Maths for students who are ready for an additional challenge.
Do you tutor Year 6 students?
Yes, but only where the focus is preparing for the transition into secondary school. I can help Year 6 students strengthen key Maths skills, address important gaps and build confidence so they feel more prepared for Year 7. I do not offer general primary Maths tuition across the full primary age range.
Do you teach Foundation and Higher GCSE Maths?
Yes. I support students at both Foundation and Higher tier. Foundation students are helped to secure key methods, improve confidence, develop exam technique and gain marks more consistently. Higher students are stretched through deeper understanding, challenging problem solving and the exam technique needed for stronger GCSE outcomes.
Which exam boards do you cover?
I support students studying AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas GCSE Maths. Teaching is matched to your child’s school, exam board, tier and current areas of need, so the questions, methods and exam preparation are relevant to the course they are following.
Do you teach AQA Level 2 Further Maths?
Yes. I support suitable higher-attaining students with AQA Level 2 Further Maths. It helps students develop deeper algebra, reasoning and problem-solving skills and can provide an excellent bridge towards A-Level Maths.
How do you know what my child needs to work on?
I use an in-house assessment alongside discussion and what I observe during lessons to identify specific gaps, misunderstandings and areas where marks are being lost. I then build the tuition around what your child actually needs rather than following a generic programme.
Can you help if my child lacks confidence?
Yes. Many students struggle because of gaps in understanding or lost confidence rather than a lack of ability. I teach in a calm, structured way and help students feel secure with key ideas before moving on to more challenging work.
Can you help students aiming for Grades 7, 8 or 9?
Yes. I stretch higher-attaining students through challenging questions, deeper reasoning and the exam technique needed to achieve Grades 7–9. AQA Level 2 Further Maths may also be suitable for students who are ready to go beyond the standard GCSE course.
Lessons & Progress
How online lessons work and how progress is supported.
Is tuition online or in person?
Tuition is delivered online. This allows me to provide focused one-to-one Maths support while your child learns from home, with clear explanations, guided practice and a consistent routine.
How does online tuition work?
Lessons are live and one-to-one, using video, screen sharing and interactive explanations. Your child can ask questions, work through examples with me and receive immediate feedback throughout the lesson.
How often will my child have lessons?
Most students have one regular lesson each week during term time, usually at a consistent time that becomes part of their routine. I will discuss the most suitable arrangement with you based on your child’s needs, goals and the availability of lesson spaces.
Do you run sessions during the school holidays?
Yes. I run focused booster sessions during selected school holidays to help students prepare for mocks, end-of-year assessments and GCSE examinations. The availability and focus of each session may vary depending on the time of year. These sessions may also be available to students who do not attend regular weekly lessons.
Is homework set between lessons?
Where it is helpful, yes. I may set short, focused tasks to reinforce learning, build independence and identify which skills are secure. Homework is used purposefully rather than being set simply for the sake of it.
What equipment does my child need?
Your child will need a laptop or tablet, a reliable internet connection, a microphone, a quiet place to work and something to write on. Lessons work effectively using these essentials alone. A separate writing tablet is optional and can be useful because it allows me to see your child’s written working more easily in real time, but it is not required for your child to benefit fully from online tuition.
Will I receive updates on progress?
Yes. I will keep you informed about what has been covered, what is improving, where further practice is needed and what the next focus for tuition will be.
How will I know my child is improving?
Progress can be seen through stronger confidence, improved topic understanding, better independent work, more effective exam technique and improved performance in school assessments and practice papers. I will also keep you informed about the progress I am seeing during tuition.
